Carluccio’s at Yas Mall:

Those who are following my blog are already aware of my love for this brand. I once read an interview of Founder “ANTONIO CARLUCCIO” where he has mentioned that Olive oil, flour, tomatoes and basil are the ingredients you can’t live without; yes we are talking about 78-year-old Italian chef and restaurateur himself who was in Abu Dhabi last year to open Carluccio’s in Yas Mall – his third restaurant in the capital. Having about 100 restaurants around the world, he shows no signs of slowing down, and his great concept of love for Italian Cuisine is beautifully cascaded to the recipes at Carluccio’s restaurant menu.

DSC_0044

Super Gorgeous and our Ultimate Favorite Antipasti Mixed Board, it has each element of our liking ranging from home-baked Focaccia bread to roasted bell pepper with basil pesto.

DSC_0040 DSC_0038

Well, apart from covering their FESTA DELLA PIZZA offerings and tasting from the best pizza festival in town, we did taste their main menu items too, and this time in a different location i-e @ YAS Mall. It is quite a big and spacious venue. In the evening, Carluccio’s welcomes those who are looking for a more relaxed dining experience. Carluccio’s deli here is unrivalled – offering a scrumptious selection of fresh meats, cheese, salads, olives, tarts and baked food items, in addition to a range of take-away dishes, they even sell these handy gadget so you can make similar dishes at home! In short YAS Mall Carluccio’s is not just a food outlet but it is a food shop that offers a range of specially imported products from Italy to give it the authentic taste of Italy to this region.

I must say we had found our spot for comfort food that goes to our very heart. Our visit was memorable; we have been well greeted by the branch supervisor. Kids were well entertained with a customized kid’s pack they offer having a number of fun activities for kids aside from coloring too, I found myself well engross while they were solving the puzzle mysteries.

DSC_0053 DSC_0020 DSC_0018 DSC_0002 DSC_0006

Starters were best to name few were Tomato, Pesto & Garlic Breads. We tried on our host’s recommendation their Ravioli and it is just divine, so full of flavors and the tiny pouches will do the magic mix in your mouth where sauce is so carefully coordinated with soft home-made ravioli which is filled with tender spinach and cheese giving the classic breakdown of each ingredients, it’s just absolute harmony. Being served in a traditional way with butter it kept it’s true essence.

DSC_0057

LAGAGNA is also up there in this same category, baked at its perfection simply must-try item on the menu. My kids have thoroughly enjoyed the dish.DSC_0067

Hubby ordered Lamb Shank which is basically slowly braised lamb shank with herbs and vegetable, served with rosemary and mashed potatoes. Meat was well done and juicy at the same time the aroma of braised lamp just satisfies your taste buds and you will fall in love with this dish.  Uncomplicated ingredients, basic taste! It can even cater to my craving for lamb roast incase I am up for big challenges next time.

Kids enjoyed the very simple and basic Penne Pasta with pink sauce, which is too good and accurate to the taste and liking for the kids. The fact that the staff gave extra attention while taking your order you can actually customize your dish by requesting to add on or reduce the selected ingredients.

DSC_0062 DSC_0060

As for the Desserts, they have a lovely selection. We tried 3 in total, 2 from the new range and one regular.

DSC_0070

CASSATA which is Semifreddo Sicilian Dessert with Chocolate pieces (I hardly felt any in mine), pistaccio ice-cream and candied fruits (as it’s comparatively hard to chew dint give me much of my dreamtime while enjoying this dessert.)

CHERRY SUNDAE: Being a die-hard fan of cherries I had no reasons not to fall in love with this awesome treat, very well proportionate dessert made by simple amalgamation of Italian Amarena Cherries and Vanilla Ice-cream and the syrup was there to balance the sweet ratio too. Love it! DSC_0068

Last but not the least Chocolate Fondente a warm chocolate pudding served with Ice cream. It was a chocolate lovers dream. Thick, chocolaty goodness all over with a layer of ice-cream. If you want a drinking chocolate version, try the Ciccoletta fiorentina.

DSC_0075

WOW Factor:

  • On weekend they are serving new Nutella e Banana so go for it!
  • If you looking for real taste of Italy at home their colorful cornucopia of fantastic fresh food, Keep sake & store cupboard items and gifts you should definitely pass by their deli.
  • Their fondants are mind blowing – pure choco lovers, welcome.

Buon Appetito!

I loved the romantic ambiance and an extended space where you can enjoy with your loved ones or close group of friends for a special dine-outs. There is even possibility to get variety without giving up on your Italian cravings. Categorically worth next visit, maybe even after to try some more Gnocchi next time 😉 I would rate my overall liking for Carluccio’s 4.6 on 5. And it can take mouth-watering 5 for just deli itself as it’s too good to ignore.

Find more info on their FB page here or go to their Website.

Westin AD ‘Super Camp’ Review – Time well spent for Kids.

Westin AD ‘Super Camp’ Review – Time well spent for Kids.

Good news: For New excitement and more #giveaways keep following Mahi blog and our FB, IG and Twitter pages

THE WESTIN SUPER CAMP

In the past many expat families used the long summer break to escape the heat and spend two months in cooler climes visiting friends and family.  However, today more and more families have both parents working like my case, which limits the amount of time we can spend away from UAE to back home in our countries. But on other hand summer in the sand and dunes emirates can be fairly tricky at times; how do I entertain my full of life & handful (mashaAllah) kids, that are storming the house as not much of street / outdoor activities due to hot climate in UAE!

Well, perhaps a summer camp will be an unlikely break for both of them communally and emotionally. As a trend here in UAE, majority of children in Dubai soon after saying goodbye to exams say hello to summer holidays! Likewise I wanted to Plan my family’s best summer yet with impressive summer camps for kids in and near our very own residence!

DSC_0148

The Westin Super Camp for Kids is a great venture from the 19th July to 27th August, and designed to promote the pillars of Westin: Eat Well, Move Well and Play Well. Indeed my kids really had an amazing time over the weeks enjoying the camp, they did a lot of fun activities and had completely enjoyed the fun-filled week. They loved their swimming sessions especially which was supervised by professional staff Sofia and her team. She an amazing trainer and really helped strengthening the breath exercises and swim coaching in kids.

DSC_0308 DSC_0302 DSC_0286 DSC_0244 DSC_0371 DSC_0122 DSC_0151

All of the activities have been selected carefully with the ultimate focus of Feel Well, allowing kids that come to the camp to be nurtured both physically and emotionally, as well as with greater awareness of self and of well-being. It’s lovely to see them enjoying their swimming hours, golf talents as well as making their fort and camps in the free play hours, what I love personally is how my boy (Wisam) mingled with the group of kids, interacted well and been an active candidate in all the activities, who is generally appear to be a reserved one when and being along with the masses.

On another note it’s great to know how well my daughter Misha is holding on to her breath while exercising her control activities in swimming classes.

DSC_0269 IMG_20150817_122248 IMG_20150825_121259 IMG_20150825_120051

WOW Factors:

  • I love the fact how the instructor and supervisors are giving individual attention to each kid and trying to focus on their fear and capabilities bringing out the best in them.

DSC_0160 DSC_0176 DSC_0174 DSC_0187_1 DSC_0177

  • To expand the range of activities they have made partnerships with the Abu Dhabi Golf Club and the Fit’n’Flex Gym.
  • What made it extra special for my daughter is her Birthday celebration at the camp, where they have made special arrangements along with big piñata and a delicious birthday cake. She loved the birthday surprise along with colorful balloons and a very fancy birthday candle flower.

DSC_0147 DSC_0149 DSC_0150

  • Interaction and bonding between Camp Coach“Ana Rita” and kids is indeed remarkable, She is a professional staff who takes care of kids making sure to nourish their intellectual and physical training and bring so much diversity to the schedule of the camp to make it interesting and fun-loving for the kids. It in indeed a great source on interest for kids when they can well explained and enjoy their summer camp activities at their fullest and I strongly believe for that the credit goes to Rita and her team for pulling such a successful Super Camp at Westin Abu Dhabi, which we will definitely recommend to all parents out there.

The fun and memories are as to cherish for the life time for my kids. My daughter has taken the best of birthday and playdate memories from Westin and talks about it each day. All in all it was great experience. My 2 munchkins simply loved escaping to Westin cool super camp, where they learnt everything from how to decorate their own perfect desserts to swimming and diving. So whether your child’s passion is in the sports or arts there will be the opportunity (lessons of Golf, Swimming, Dance and Yoga, Cooking as SuperChefs etc) for them to be busy and entertained throughout the whole summer holidays here in UAE at Westin Super Camp.

Iftar Review – “Layali al Baraka” at Jumeirah at Etihad Towers – #WIN Iftar Buffet for 2! (INSTANT GIVEAWAY)

Iftar Review – “Layali al Baraka” at Jumeirah at Etihad Towers – #WIN Iftar Buffet for 2! (INSTANT GIVEAWAY)

IFTAR AT “LAYALI AL BARAKA”

IMG_20150712_230737

Like each year Jumeirah at Etihad Towers have their special set-up of Ramadan “Layali al Baraka” in their diversified and multipurpose venue (Mezzoon Pre Function Area). You can Experience the joy of the season with friends and family in the lavishly decorated venue and  immerse yourself in the Ramadan spirit with your family and friends

It is predominantly Arabic food however non-Arabic dishes are also there and been chosen carefully as been best in the menu and also strike a great balance to par the taste of Ramadan menu. Jalab, Karkadh, Laban, Kamar Al Deen & Erk Sous all of these varieties of Ramadan Drinks are available however if you wish you may order for the soft drinks and fresh juices chargeable out of the Ramadan buffet menu.

IMG_20150712_223342

We loved the set-up of house Water, some juices, Nuts & Dates available on your table pre-arrival; as it’s much convenient you don’t have to rush to the main food area to find the glasses for juices or to start munch-in soon as you break the fast.

IMG_20150712_231036

This might be our last outdoor Iftar this  Ramadan in UAE, but we can’t get enough of our very favorite “Lentil Soup” with Lemon and Zaatar Crouton; oh yes the infusion of Zaatar added that extra zest to this great creation. There was soup of the day also however it’s was not been able to take our attention away from lentil one!

IMG_20150712_231622

Another reason I love food at Jumeirah at Etihad Towers is their Condiments; we loved the fact how keen observation and special care they gave it to the small portion of menu; we had noticed the same at our previous review of “ROSEWATER”. Cornichons, shaved Parmesan and marinated Mushroom with grilled Eggplants were tasty.

IMG_20150712_223559 IMG_20150712_223715

There is a huge salad bar and of compound salad having Lollo Rosso and Oak leaves with complete range of dressings, balsamic being the best. We also loved Baba Ganoush, Mohamara and Warak Enab, in Cold Mezzah section.

We noticed a large presence of non-Arabs diners too at their Iftar Buffet. How they cater to that in menu, well to mention Thai Green Chicken Curry with Basil and Stir fried Vegetable Rice were indeed top-notch Asian items in “Layali al Baraka” menu and we were fond of it.

To keep a mix they had few western dishes on menu too; Mediterranean Style baked Mahi Mahi, Tomato, Grilled Chicken Breast with creamy Mushroom Sauce, Potato Gratin with Celeriac and Buttered Peas with Lettuce and Shallots. On a side Indian note their Tandoori Jhinga is a must-try.

IMG_20150712_223515

IMG_20150712_231817

Live station for Churros preparation. it was divine..

WOW Factor:

Guess what we found at Hot Mezzah Chicken Wings & Chicken Liver Pomegranate jus which was very well done and juicy too. Ouzi with Oriental Rice kept its soul along with Emirati Station having Lamb Harris, Vegetables Salona and Lamb Majbous.

The traditional Oud player sets a soothing ambience with his notations and you will enjoy the whole ambiance even louder.

Main Course consist of Arabic Mixed Grill (Shish Taouk, Lamb Kebab, Kofta Kebab), Laban Emmo, Dajaj Bel Batata (it has become our favorite potatoe dish now)

IMG_20150712_223211

Other main courses includes Samak Makli with Tarator sauce, the Kousa Mahshi (very simple in taste unlike its name), Yaknet Bazella with Lamb Stew and very popular Vermicelli Rice, very appetizing.

  • There is large variety of Arabic Sweets to name what we tasted were Koulaj, Kataif Ashta with nuts, Cheese Halwa, Aysh al Saraya and of course Umm Ali along with Tangy Lemon Meringue Tart and yummy Red Velvet sliced Cake.
IMG_20150712_232616

Tamar Hindi being served via Traditional Dallah Style.

Live station of Kunafa was also in progress. We rate it 4.5 out of 5 for being an exquisite buffet of regional delights including live cooking stations. From sumptuous seafood grills to a live Saj station and customary Ramadan beverages served with the traditional dallah, each appetising dish will enchant your palate.

In the spirit of the Holy Month of Ramadan, they will be donating AED 2, for every person attending their Iftar, to Emirates Red Crescent in support of children in need.

Make this Ramadan memorable over Iftar buffet at The Westin Abu Dhabi takes place on Fairways , from sunset till 20:30 pm . You may take advantage of their delicious Iftar and Sohour in this award-winning restaurant.  As far as buffets go I always find Fairways fairly decent and in the Ramadan buffet it features live cooking stations with authentic Arabic delicacies with delicious Asian & International flavors

DSC_0021 DSC_0037

The atmosphere in Ramadan get extra nice and rather homely, as we believe that in this location much-needed time can be spent in edifying great vibes, sharing your meal and embracing that spiritual feeling and taking them from strength to strength. Fairways puts on a delicate and delicious offering in form of delicacies from around the world reflecting all the delicious cuisines offered in the hotel.

DSC_0033 DSC_0036

The staff is chiefly polite and attentive, though they have a fairly extensive spread, We have been warmly greeted by Leon & Vineeta from outlet Management. I must need t mention “Jose” here, one of the staff who has been so courteous and attended us through out. He was very alert and prompt in his services.

DSC_0029 DSC_0025

The quality of the food varies though, so you really must pick wisely, as they have selected Chinese counter, Indian cuisine as well as Arabic cuisine. Salad variety is amazing. While you’re the buffet selection you’re sure to be tempted by the delectable dishes on offer at Fairways. My kids loved their baked cheesy pasta and

DSC_0023 DSC_0022

Dry fruits counter is presented close to the entrance, in the centre of the buffet so that you can take a small plate of dates and dried fruit and a glass of laban or my ever favorite Jallab/Gellab and kamareldin in drinks to your table as you are being seated.

WOW FACTOR:

What amuses us most (adult and kids) is their traditional Dondurma ice cream, and next to it the attractive counter for so many flavors of ice cream to choose from along with over 10 toppings. It’s the finest treat for the mini creatures that went along with me to fairways.

 DSC_0016

Our Favorites:

In Cold Mezzeh our favourites were Tabouleh, Fatouch, Shanklish, Mohamara. You must try their Baby Cucumber Pickles, Labneh Ball & Marinated Feta Cheese in the JAR! We like Cheese cigar roll & Meat Fatayer in Hot Mezzeh. Karouf Mahshi (Ouzi Lamb) at the Carving station was scrumptious. I was so full while munching on mezzeh that by the time I reached main course I was feeling so full however I did taste Lamb Stew, Green Beans,  Samak Harra and vegetable biryani which is not and either. I must say I love the variety of seafood in their dishes and so well blended as per Iftar items.

DSC_0012 DSC_0005

Desserts section has everything varying from Arabic sweets to Turkish icecream, French pastries to mousses, Indian Sweets to flourless cheese cakes.

IMG_20150704_151745 IMG_20150704_145218

IMG_20150704_153405 IMG_20150704_153122

All in all it was a very well genus Iftar buffet loaded with items where most of the dishes are tasteful and has variety too. I hope I dint miss out of Arabic coffee and dates as well which is one of the highlight of the Iftar.

DSC_0010 DSC_0006

We love visiting Westin Abu Dhabi golf Resort and Spa, we have earlier dine in at another food outlet “Sacci” (REVIEW HERE) and now at “Fairways” which is again a wonderful experience. Hotels maintain high standards in F&B and the great team adds value to it.For More information on Fairways & The Westin AbuDhabi click there pages here: Facebook, Twitter, IG.

Featured Buffet – Rosewater Style!  Grand Spread, Outstanding Quality in Jumeirah at Etihad Towers + Competition for readers!

WINNER:

Congrats “Jennalyn Calibara”

Please claim your prize before Monday 22 June, 2015.

We have recently attended what we wish to feature as one of the best Buffet in town. It is at “Rosewater” restaurant in Jumeirah at Etihad Towers. Here is our break down of the most amazing areas we review it for. truly a worth buffet for it’s cost !

DSC_0142

Impression & Entry: Neat, Stylish and Impressive! you can’t miss those breathtaking vistas of Hotel Lobby while making your way to Rosewater Restaurant which stands out for its stunning setting. Once we are in front of the restaurant at Podium Level the hostess greet us immediately upon entry and bring us to our table in main dining area, we were been given a short tour of whole restaurant, live stations as well as their stunning terrace (balcony open areas) which has pool view on one side and western coastline of Abu Dhabi sea on the front side.

DSC_0076

While we were comfortably seated, the server soon approach for taking order for our hot or cold beverages.

DSC_0062 DSC_0063

Wide – Spread Buffet: The brilliant array of cuisines at Rosewater restaurant’s buffet will make you marvel since it’s not that effortless to maintain the standards so far above the ground from corner to corner especially with such an ample wide –spread buffet. We were been invited over their dinner buffet offering an extensive range of delicious options including canapés, sushi, salads, a variety of dishes from all around the world and live cooking stations serving pasta, noodles, steaks and even yummy crepes.

DSC_0081  DSC_0032

Modern Traces &  Intelligent draftsman: The architecture is striking and well set up, decor of the restaurant is eye-catching and contemporary. The restaurant is so spacious and has excellent interior boasting an elegant yet trendy seating arrangement which is so well distributed making it ideal either for couples or large families or any business meeting . I was seated along with family on the most Royal spot, festooned with sparkling chandeliers and interesting wall treatments.

DSC_0079 DSC_0072

Ambiance & Environment: It has a tranquil peaceful amazing atmosphere. we loved the terrace too and stood their for a while and enjoyed the amazing views. Rosewater provides a tranquil setting with ceiling to floor windows creating a sense of space over all and you won’t  feel it crammed or heaving even if it’s full house. The set-up of the buffet area on one side on the floor spread even give enough space to walk in and forth while you are choosing upon your dishes as well as the walking passage in between the cooking stations and counters is so wide.

DSC_0027

Staff: The restaurant’s best features however are their delectable concoctions, but they are made even pleasant with the staff considerate service. They were so attentive without being intrusive; and it was very timely service with attention to detail. We even noticed one of the waiter always clearing our dining area and fixed  napkins for kids every time we visit the buffet. I could say it’s fine dining feature of the service which is so rare in a buffet restaurant to this level.

DSC_0051

Food: The excellent quality of food is absolutely satisfying. We like the very fine diversity of food! Whether it’s seafood or steak, Indian curry or Arabian salad, Salad or desserts every item on buffet is prepared with keenness and aptness. I can suggest this restaurant to everybody to make this fantastic experience of Abu Dhabi´s Best International Restaurant!

DSC_0055 DSC_0047 DSC_0033 DSC_0043

Although the selection of food is so wide, even then you will be surprised by the quality, they give complete attention to breads, salads and desserts too.  I love their Classic Caesar Salad, Crispy Croutons, Quality Parmesan, marinated Chicken appetizers and the Prawn delicacies so juicy and infused with aroma. Kids love pasta so we custom ordered  from the live station and Chef prepared it to perfection, I wished for a Grilled Portobello Mushroom and it was been fulfilled.

DSC_0094 DSC_0084 DSC_0054 DSC_0044

There were some specials mini platters at of glazed BBQ Sauced shrimps with spring onions they taste so amazing ; The Chef at live counter made sure that Chicken and meat is perfectly grilled and seasoned it involves communication but believe me from  a lamb fillet to a tuna steak everything is available and the expert chefs will prepare it for you just the way you like it.

DSC_0035 DSC_0042

Soup was nicely seasoned with an abundance of sautéed ingredients. If only there is a choice od creamy one too;  Asian sauce is some dishes were a wee bit salty for me, but then always you have asian food live stations for ordering the noodles and curries in the way you want, you can add any items been dried out earlier like sprouts, mushrooms, tomatoes etc. They look so visually remarkable, I have asked for sauce on the side and crisp fried vegetables.

Vegetables were finely chopped up in dishes and risottos tasted amazing too. I should say that the price is definitely worth it.  Too bad that I am really not good on buffets as I get full easily. The choices were endless! I will definitely give my thumbs up to Rosewater for their dinner buffet due to added factors of ambiance and services along with great food.

Desserts : Finally for dessert it’s a long list , I had creme brulee, raspberry sauce, chocolate cake and that macron mini sweet burger over there, which again I forgot what it is called.  Creme brulee was creamy and the top was crystallized to perfection!  Rosewater have the largest variety in desserts ranging from Arabic to Indian Sweets, Crème Brulee to fruits tarts, flavored Mousse that incorporates air bubbles so well to give it a light and airy texture, Chocolate fondue and the Crepes counter was my kids’ favorite and it’s so difficult to move them away from it’s sight, honestly it attracts grown-ups equally.

DSC_0091

DSC_0023 DSC_0021

DSC_0029

DSC_0022

Our Take: Personally, I couldn’t taste completely even 50 % of the items on menu as I get full so easily! All in all, it is a really elegant founding to have a special meal with friends, family or for a special occasion. Service along with visually beautiful menu items make this a place must to go back. we were blown away by the quality of their preparation.

Surely after this scrumptious buffet and indulgence in delicacies, you will kick off your day perfectly, you will return back there in no time. I guess our quarter tradition (visiting best food spots in town quarterly) continues strong as they won’t  fail to make each visit a bit more special. We are returning to Rosewater soon !

CITY WALK – Guylian Chocolates R Here! – Rich in Creativity, Style & Cocoa butter!

We were invited at the launch event of Guylian Belgian Chocolate Café, at YAS mall (Yas Island) – AbuDhabi. In it’s Unique Sea shell creativity, this Chocolate Café offers Original Belgian Chocolate Sea Shells which are sure to deliver you the ultimate chocolate experience. It is so rich and creamy from outside and have this oh-so-yummy  famous Guylian hazelnut flavor.

DSC_0098 DSC_0186

The open-air cafe location was classy, and the evening was startling with Chocolate truffles, desserts, snacks and coffee served in a modern Art Deco setting, we surely had enjoyed the beautiful array of delights and pander to our passion for the premium Belgian chocolates, exquisite cakes and decadent desserts.

DSC_0088

While the cafe focused on Guylian’s signature chocolate that made them a recognized global brand, the eatery also sell sandwiches, pastries, coffee, cakes and more. I simply loved the fact how soft and creamy these chocolates are, they simply melts in your mouth simultaneously giving you this delectable taste of signature hazelnut praliné filling with in.

DSC_0227 DSC_0187 DSC_0190DSC_0210 DSC_0192 DSC_0151 DSC_0145

We had a privilege of greeting the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to the UAE and a meeting and interview with an Ever-smiling Mieke Callebaut, Marketing & Sales Director Europe/USA of the brand Guylian. She has briefed us about the origin of the World’s Favorite Belgian Sea Shells, of how the Chocolatier Guy Foubert become the first to come up with the idea of making chocolates in this shape, while returning home, thinking of bringing gifts to friends and family and passing along the coastline and getting his inspiration from the seashells.

DSC_0153

DSC_0143 DSC_0156

A Story of Love and Chocolate:

She also narrates how the whole journey of Guylian begans, Guylian, the romantic combination of the founders’ names, the Belgian couple Guy and Liliane. Guylian was started in 1958 by a Guy Foubert, a Belgian chocolatier who specialised in artisanal handmade chocolate truffles. The chocolates are now sold in more than 120 destinations around the world, but the company’s signature truffle recipe is still made in small-batch copper kettles exclusively by Guylian’s master chocolatiers in Sint-Niklaas, Belgium. The chocolates are available in hypermarkets, department stores and duty-free shops at major airports around the world.

Inspiration for Outlet in UAE:

It lovely to know the similarities and fondness Brand Owners find in the culture of UAE, they love the culture and tradition of giving and sharing in this region which inspires them to have Guylian Belgian Chocolate Café established here and the products be part on national and traditional festivities, Giveaways and Warm Gifts giving activities which is a part of our rich culture in UAE.

Some interesting fact:

  • Every Sea Shell is marked with a Guylian “G” stamp, the sign of a genuine Guylian chocolate & a mark of an artist.

  • The shape of the Guylian chocolate seahorse is distinctive. It has its tail coiling the other way around than seahorses in life.

  • They serve a gourmet range too.

DSC_0183 DSC_0121

It is an exclusive and classy location at Luxury Court on the ground level in Yas Mall. to indulge in all the luscious Guylian pleasures. it’s open from Saturday to Wednesday: 10:00am – 10:00pm and Thursday to Friday until midnight.

All in all it was a great event, very well coordinated and organized by TohPR, with goody bags and unlimited flow of Guylian famous chocolates and Canapés, we surely had some coddle chocolate moments there! We are going back there very soon 😉

A Sweet Journey to Candylicious !

A Sweet Journey to Candylicious !

DSC_0338Candylicious is not just a store it a dream concept representing fantasy, joy and inimitable early days reminiscences. It’s a heaven for Candy Lovers and home to the largest ‘pick and mix’ wall in Asia and the Middle East. I recall tourists footing outside posing for pictures at the storefront when I walked past Dubai Mall Store when we visited.

Candylicious — the world’s largest candy store, recently launched its branch in Abu Dhabi at Yas Mall. You won’t miss the store because it is located just next to the Food Court.  Mall Walks with Little humans of my family give us a plea to pass through this store in each trip. DSC_0313

But then last week’s Blogger’s Event Invite for #ASweetJourney from DSC_0283Candylicious made this sweet fantasy a truly memorable experience providing a sneak peak into their Exciting newbie’s at Store such as the Garrett’s Popcorn and Spun Candy stations, followed by lunch at ROGO’S, the world’s biggest ROLLERCOASTERRESTAURANT®.

DSC_0359DSC_0193DSC_0200

I was so impressed by the oversize candy tree in the middle, near the entrance. It was dripping with candy flank & Swirly Spun Lollipops, hanging full of candy bars and chocolate balls. The design and section Management of the store is well engineered & fascinating that it invites curiosity to every by passer who desire to consume every candy available, I felt myself  “Alice in Wonderland” but “Kid in a Candy Store” – Candylicious Version 😉

DSC_0190

We have also been given live demo for Spun Handmade Delicious Confectionery in Covent Garden and believe me seeing a hard candy being made infront of me has major influence on my understanding of what the results look like since its been always my concern when consumed by my kids.

DSC_0199  DSC_0225

DSC_0258

Sight of those Clustered dispenser and lined walls with over 250 pick-and-mix varieties that reaches the ceiling awed me. The store also offers thousands of different products from well-known brands such as M&M’s and Hershey’s, gourmet cookies, lollipops in all shapes and sizes you can imagine, & above all mouth watering smell of popcorn was announcing the Garrett’s Popcorn caramel indulgence.

DSC_0355 DSC_0237DSC_0233 DSC_0287

They have my very favorite Oh-so-Yummy Tiny & Chewy Jell Belly in all flavors; it can burst happiness in your mouth. We had an opportunity to taste some delicious candies and also take away some with us too. We tasted the signature Reese’s Peanut butter chocolate too.

DSC_0352

Word of caution: All in all it was great event; Sweets, Treats and Candy Galore, What a Celebration they had in store. This store casts a spell and mesmerize all specially the candy lovers and chances are that you may shop till you drop so do watch your calories, watch your teeth, Keep shopping as they gluten free options too 😀

Brunching at 18 Degrees – Hyatt Capital Gate Abu Dhabi

Brunching at 18 Degrees – Hyatt Capital Gate Abu Dhabi

Featured Brunch:

 DSC_0881 DSC_0933

From Jazz brunches to lavish brunch buffets, Mahi Blog declare 18° as one of the best weekend brunches available in #UAE. It was startling & an indulgent experience itself to brunch at Worlds Furthest Leaning Man-Made Tower.  Venue stars as the winner of the “Best Modern European Restaurant”, however their Friday buffet also includes cuisine from Italy, Turkey, Greece and Lebanon. Its ambiance and structure is surely manifest. It is so modern in sophistication yet so simple & family oriented, as I believe Brunch is all about the most relax and cozy time you ought to spend with family and friends catering to variety of choices and yet keeping a balance to its theme. To make that perfect menu is an art itself and a lovely presentation and set-up has indeed made our experience at 18 degree brunch Exclusive and Exciting.

DSC_0909DSC_0892

Let’s TALK ABOUT Food Menu:

Arabic cold mezze, Fattoush & Muhammara dip stands out; Quinoa salad is very distinctive in cold dishes. Soup Section’s variety didn’t impress us a lot, though their cheese Counter is ample and diverse with some tasty chutneys and pickles.

DSC_0923 DSC_0894

DSC_0934 DSC_0942

Ostensibly the Modern Counters and cooking stations tells the story of Huge pantry loud out. Their Raw bar (seafood section) may appear to have a lot in common with other European style brunch buffet however Dil marinated Salmon and Local Blue Crabs are must-try items. The Roasted juicy Corn fed Chicken, Striplion Beef meat and Wood baked whole Stuffed Fish is so rich in its taste & display and was beyond par, Béarnaise sauce made of clarified butter emulsified in egg yolks was there to complement the roasted item and we love strong Herbs flavor in case you are not fan of this taste than veal jus reduction comes to rescue as it adds to the richness of the dish, grilled veggies was our favorite side along with fish Yorkshire pudding.

DSC_0927 DSC_0924

Keep enjoying the elegant view of Abu Dhabi city while brunching and efficient services and decorum stands on its hold merits.

DSC_0891 DSC_0903

WOW Factor:

  • Antipasti – (Missed giving special attention to minor items !?!? often happens to big buffet) Guess what It’s definitely not the case here we loved the Grilled eggplant, zucchini, Roasted Mushrooms and deep fried Artichokes (I never tasted them so well if fried; before).
  • Their Beetroot Mutabel is their tastiest and good-looking shooter you will love and enjoy.
  • Kids loved their Sujuk (Sojouck – Spicy Sausage) and Margarita Pizza.
  • There is fair attentive communication involved if you wish to customized any of the item from the spreaded menu counters, rest assure they will make sure to get your exact requirements and bring your dish to table exactly how you need, we loved our steak with mashed creamy potatoes and pomegranate.
  • Don’t forget to ask ever-smiling staff for your Bread basket, Rye & Panini Roll were delicious with seasoned butters. Smoked paprika & Garlic give us a face-off judging moment there.

DSC_0912 DSC_0911DSC_0939

Wait – It’s Not yet Done !

A visit to the dessert counter is a decadent must as it finished off our meal really well. You have an array of items to choose from, we loved Passion Fruit and Banana Meringue, Banoffie Pie, Tiramisu, Poached Strawberry with Vanilla Cream and Hot Chocolate Pudding !

DSC_0895 DSC_0896 DSC_0897

Winding Up:

It definitely promises an elite and impressive experience where diners can enjoy a wide array of Eastern Mediterranean fare, inspiration is drawn from the restaurant’s à la carte menu, their hot dishes also presents Saffron Rice, chicken curry and Homemade Pasta in case you have fussy little humans along with you. Worth knowing that all their ingredients are sourced from the freshest local produce to not only produce sumptuous food, but commit to sustainable practices as well. If you are not in hurry for home when brunch ends you may enjoy a sundowner on The Terrace of 18° – 80 meters up, with panoramic views of City coastline, at their Sunset Cocktails while watching the ebbing sun.

kk1 kk3

India Palace is not at all a new restaurant but as I keep a rolling list of new spots and try to vary according to cuisine, location and reader requests, I decided to review their yet the latest branch in Abudhabi i.e Dalma Mall. The place is also inviting, beautifully convoluted with red and green colored glass pieces and woodcarvings, the mughal darbaris/guards statues standing at the entrance and the wooden chambers cast their patterns from upper limit to flooring.

kk4

DSC_0132 DSC_0343

There is also a small kiosk of inexpensive Indian Jewellery and souvenirs which surely has kept me engaged while my hubby waited. The most interesting part is they crafted the wax bangles on spot, yes my little girl has bought the handmade bangle. They are also selling inexpensive trinkets and souvenirs and bling items, you may wear them and dine in like royals in the Palace. Restaurant staff is so humble and well aware yet so prompt in suggesting to make your choices easier, they look very welcoming in their royal Indian Avatar and will surely greet you with smile and courtesy. I must say it is one of those few Indian Restaurants where you can find majesty & yet so economical on your pocket, hefty space & serene setting at the same time.

 DSC_0332 DSC_0118

DSC_0158 DSC_0123

Lets now talk about the main thing, Food.

DSC_0268

I loved the dishes we tasted, it included:

DSC_0288 DSC_0250

DSC_0311 DSC_0228 DSC_0253 DSC_0193

BBQ platter which stands out the most in taste and I would surely recommend it, Jhinga (Prawns) was my favorite in the platters. Kebabs and chicken pieces were so tender and yet so full on taste and very well marinated. It came to table moist yet with tandoori crisp, sheathed in Onion rings, yoghurt and Green Chutni. The sizzler sound coming out from the platter just drifted about my senses with the amazing smoky magic of charcoal that is nowhere to be seen as adequate and flavorsome.

DSC_0290 DSC_0329 DSC_0315 DSC_0291

Rogan Josh & Butter Chicken: Since I am not a great fan of Rogan Josh I was not keen on having it however I must admit it is something which tastes dissimilar than usual onion-tomato salan/gravy served in different Indian Restaurant under same label. Butter Chicken wins the choice award with its soft and creamy texture and best blend with Romali roti.

DSC_0301

DSC_0148 DSC_0294

Biryani: Oh so delicious and my 2nd favorite in the menu, When I peek under the dough cover, an intense aroma turns my sensory taps on to a full gushing speed. The savory smell of chicken blends with the urban gulp of air of Indian spices.

DSC_0357 DSC_0360

I love the use of original spices in cooking and am sometimes thwarted when the spice level is bargained, luckily at Indian Palace the Chef was so confident to utilize spices authentically and mentioned to us that he tried to keep spice levels true to the dish rather than to temper them along for the sake of accurate savor. All in all the menu is each speck as refined and packed with Indian close-to-heart dishes. You must try their Mango Lassi, it’s delicious. I should also mention that the cocktail menu looks pretty fancy & innovative. This was the best value meal indeed with a freshly made romali/butter/naan rotis (Indian bread).

DSC_0319 DSC_0323

For desserts I opted for gulab jaman and rasmalai, Gulab Jaman was so tasty that I can have again and again each time I visit them. I wish to give genuine feedback in terms of presentation, taste etc. hence I will share something I noticed at India Palace which is yet so unique and a good practice. Color-wise I found their biryani and butter paneer not too bright and dark when I enquire into, I was impressed to know that they don’t use artificial coloring at all and have very strict practices for it. I believe one must get to engage with the staff to the level that we did to clarify so many perceptions about food DSC_0212

DSC_0245 kk2 I may sound influenced as I am but all in all India Palace restaurants are no less than a satisfying and reliable option compare to lots of other Indian cuisines. For me, its on my list of places to return, with a famished tummy and with my IPhone and start diggin and clickin.

Special Thanks to Mr. Prashob, Mr. Sateesh, Chef Amit & Chef Javed & to ever smiling Staff of India Palace.
