The Big Weekend at Zayed Sports City was one of the most fun and active kids and family festival of the year! There were countless activities from sports and recreation to arts and crafts and bouncies. The minimal entry fee opened the door to participate in myriad activities throughout the day.
HIT Amongst the Kids: Bouncies and inflatable’s was surely covering the large area and truly engaged the kids of various ages along with their parent to have a lot of fun and smiley faces.
The live stage activities and competition were fun too, in my personal opinion the most engaging and well handled zone was Petting Zoo, from a 8 months old baby to 60 years old man each and every one was enjoying petting the most adorable pets they have, I clicked some of the best moments little ones had with snake, parrot, ducks, rabbits and turtles.
Kids from across the region even competed for the title of “Abu Dhabi’s Fittest Kid”, which was open to all ages as they battled for the coveted prize.
Kids were also accessing and been taken to the pitches or courts for football, tennis, rugby, basketball and a golf simulator. All equipment were provided by Zayed Sports City. The biky and other cycles were also at the venue in big area for the family of 4, 2 and even solo show.
Adventure HQ climbing wall was a fear for me though but the brave youngsters were continuously trying to hold on to that specially when they were been challenged by a local radio station covering at the event.
An art station was be set up infront of food stalls where kids put together mask to become heroes, princesses, animals or aliens, or make their own handicrafts and take them home. While we nibbles on out refreshments the art staff helped to get kids engaged in their creativity exercises.
The Big Weekend was perfect for those young at heart, but I noticed parents and teens did not feel left out of the fun.
For myself and other parents we challenged ourselves on a obstacle races and bungee run. Spot-on was a marketplace where they sell items such as handmade jewellery and other goods from local artisans my favorite stall was Pottery Kreation..
We also witnessed few Stilt-walkers and cartoon characters appearances. Other entertainment on the schedule included skaters in Sumo suits taking to the ice and a band playing Arabic music. A traditional village that guests can visit will display Emirati bedouin life and how life has changed in the Emirates over the years.
I would sum it as a weekend of entertainment for everyone in the family at a reasonable price will bring plenty of smiles. All in all at Big Weekend there is something to entertain everyone!
